Here is the tip:


[root@test-974 bin]# ps -ef | grep pmon
root      4433  4220  0 23:16 pts/1    00:00:00 grep pmon
[root@test-974 bin]# su - oracle
[oracle@test-974 ~]$ sqlplus

SQL*Plus: Release 11.1.0.6.0 - Production on Tue May 21 23:17:33 2013

Copyright (c) 1982, 2007, Oracle.  All rights reserved.

Enter user-name: sys as sysdba
Enter password:
Connected to an idle instance.

SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.

Total System Global Area 1657225216 bytes
Fixed Size                  1300296 bytes
Variable Size            1174407352 bytes
Database Buffers          469762048 bytes
Redo Buffers               11755520 bytes
Database mounted.
Database opened.
SQL>exit

Then;
login as user
Make sure to export ORACLE_HOME="XXX"
use (su - oracle) 

start oracle listener from bin directory
